Growing up, I always wanted to live in Kelly Taylor’s house. It was so large and modern and filled with late eighties/early nineties furnishings. It’s what I imagined Clay’s house looking like in the book Less than Zero as opposed to the film of the same name that retained some of the characters but added “morals”. Uggh.
Anyway, I also liked Steve Sanders’s house and for a while, it was hard to for me to tell the difference. You have to remember that Steve’s house features the frosted glass cube windows, which most people use in their bathrooms, but apparently which Rush and Samantha Sanders find suitable for every window in their home. I mean who needs sunlight when you have Hartley House money?
I have similar feelings about the Bel Age Hotel. As a youth, I wanted to live there, much like Dylan McKay. Then, finally, when I moved to LA, I used to drive past, reminiscing about Dylan throwing potted plants at Brenda and having rooftop pool trysts with Kelly whilst “Damn I wish I was your lover” plays. I never understood why Dylan moved into that house after Stephanie Beacham showed up. I mean how could you give up living in a hotel? Besides, all the high school events were held there, so you never had to worry about renting a room. Plus, Color Me Bad might randomly be staying there. And as it could never be said enough, the rooftop pool. I mean, it beats the pool at Melrose Place, especially after Brooke died in it.
