Today, an interesting thing happened on Days of Our Lives: Someone (a reporter for Channel 6) remembered that EJ was a race car driver. In a hotel room across town, Kayla remembered that Stephanie was also a race car driver. No one remembered that Max was a race car driver, but he was too busy beating up passengers on the airlines he invests in. I think its odd that last summer racing was such a big aspect of these people’s lives and now EJ wavers between mustache twirling villian and lovesick puppy dog; Stephanie no longer looks like the Wendy’s girl, has become totally vapid and hates her parents; and Max wantonly invests his money in get rich quick schemes after looking at a ten page business plan on a beach. What’s next Max? Amway? Prepaid Legal Advice?
What I want to know is this: Did Stefano finance EJ’s racing career (while EJ was some Dimera sleeper agent)? If so, is he like Mike from the Real World London? Does he enjoy the ranch dressing? Furthermore, can anyone really imagine EJ racing? I know I can’t imagine EJ doing anything that doesn’t involve wearing pink dress shirts?
Can anyone really imagine this incarnation of Stephanie racing? I know that I can’t see someone who seems to have singlehandedly pushed the occupation of flight attendant back fifty years pumping her own gas, let alone driving a sponsored car around a track. What happened to her in Dayton? I like to think that she was kidnapped, implanted with a false personality a la Hope and Gina, and then hooked up with Jeremy Horton (who of course, underwent a similar personality transplant). I think this version of the character is a bigger disconnect than when Matthew Ashford left the show and was replaced by Mark Valley.
Finally, Max. What is his deal and why do I seemingly dislike him so much? Saying the hair would be too easy. I just don’t get his purpose. He’s a big time race car driver (or so everyone says). He’s an earnest garage owner (or so everyone says). He likes Chelsea (his adopted niece). He likes Stephanie (his adopted niece). He likes Abby (his one time stepniece). He has horrible business sense (Touch the Sky Airlines). He has a strong sense of morality (defender of Eastern European women). Now with all this Jeremy stuff coming down, don’t you think Max wishes that he was more involved with the Dimera feud? Oh wait! But he is because this whole Jeremy nonsense is a subsidiary of Andre Dimera, Inc. I guess everything in Salem is related, which is a bonus for Max since that’s his entire dating pool.
