I Cry at Football Commercials

How sad is it that the Nike Football “Leave Nothing”  commercial reduces me to tears? I swear, I’ll cry at almost anything.  I think this is like the greatest commercial since Liz Taylor’s White Diamonds.*

Anyway, this commercial just kills me. It was directed by Michael Mann, which caught me off guard since there’s no sign of Jamie Foxx or mojitos anywhere to be seen.  All kidding aside, I think it’s the score from The Last of The Mohicans.  Powerful scores always make me cry.  I cry everytime I watch Rudy and the music swells as they pick him up and carry him off the field.  (I also cry because Vince Vaughn will never be that youthful and thin again.)

* So White Diamonds.  I don’t know if there is a Hall of Fame for commercials, but if there was, this would be an automatic inductee like Dan Marino.  Come on, Liz Taylor all in white with the massive bling just shows up in the middle of nowhere (The Amazon? Africa? Palm Springs?) and covers some guy’s bet with her earrings and uttering the classic “These have always brought me luck”.  I’d be surprised to hear that Michael Mann didn’t direct this one too.

And I don’t even watch sports.

  2. Whhhiite Diiaaamonds….

Speaking of White (Xmases, Patrick) I likes the new/festive layout.

  3. I have the soundtrack to Braveheart, Gladiator, Doctor Zhivago and Romeo & Juliet (the 1968 version) and I alternate between them and Britney in my car.

  4. Seriously, they show White Diamonds like three times a day during General Hospital. I guess that timeslot has always brought Liz luck (or lucrative holiday revenue). Whatevs.

  5. [...] time for another “White Diamonds” commercial alert!  If you recall, I declared Elizabeth Taylor’s ad for “White Diamonds” as one of the….  I’m sorry, but when Sally Field lampoons you on Saturday Night Live, you know you’re [...]
