“These have always brought me luck.”
It’s time for another “White Diamonds” commercial alert! If you recall, I declared Elizabeth Taylor’s ad for “White Diamonds” as one of the greatest commercials for our time. I’m sorry, but when Sally Field lampoons you on Saturday Night Live, you know you’re the money.
Anyway, I was in the drug store during lunch picking up some items, minding my own business, listening to the Christmas music they have playing throughout the store. All of a sudden, mid-song mind you, the distinctive “White Diamonds” music plays and I hear Dame Elizabeth Taylor urging us to have a sparkling Christmas or something. I couldn’t believe it: “White Diamonds” preempted holiday music. It’s not even like this is a new product, “White Diamonds” has been around for like sixteen years! I know “White Diamonds”, like all fragrances, probably gets a bump in revenue at Christmastime, but if they’re going to start preempting store Muzak, let’s do it year-round. I’m sure grandmothers like to smell pretty at other times besides Christmas and Mother’s Day.
