Fresh from the great Slip N Slide of Freedom project from Independence Day, Holly takes on a new task: remodeling the Mansion’s gym. In other news, Kendra’s mother Patti drops by for a nip/tuck.
Not to sound too much like a lit professor, but one of the many (many!) reoccurring themes in this series is Holly’s overwhelming desire to make her mark on the Playboy Empire. As the Number One Girlfriend, Holly sees herself as the First Lady of Playboy and as such enjoys maintaining tradition but finding a way to modernize things at the same time. In previous episodes, Holly spearheaded the re-design of the neighboring Playmate House so redecorating the gym inside the Mansion is the logical next step.
First of all, while appreciate Holly’s enthusiasm, I’m not sure that the Mansion will ever look modern. From the furniture to the floors to the much maligned wood paneling, the Mansion is stuck in a perpetual state of Seventies excess. Have you ever watched clips of parties at the Mansion from the Seventies? Well you don’t need to since everything looks exactly the same.
Anyway, Holly is all about re-doing they gym behind Hef’s back. Hef is obviously a creature of habit (remember how his butlers send lamb chops over to whichever establishment he and the girls will be dining at?) and change upsets him. Unfortunately, when the youngest piece of furniture is several years older than your youngest girlfriend, sometimes change is inevitable. Say what you will about Holly, but her finished product was a vast improvement. The leather couch was nice, the machines were in a logical and orderly manner, and “the art” was hung with extreme care. It still looked like something out of Boogie Nights, but a vast improvement, nonetheless.
The episode’s other plot involved Patti’s plastic surgery. As I stated last week, you can’t have an episode without a party and/or Bridget or Kendra’s family. Kendra takes her mother in for her consultation and walks away with numerous procedures. Seeing as this is the E! Channel, I half expected Kendra and Patti to show up at Dr. Rey’s office or at least encounter Mike Boogie in the waiting room. For the second week in a row, Hef allows a family member to stay over at the Mansion as Patti recovers from her surgery.
