Since I do not have enough points to qualify for WGA membership I do not feel guilty at all about coming up with excellent ideas for television shows and movies. For instance, since General Hospital has shifted a good percentage of the action back to the titular hospital, I see no good reason to ever bring back Night Shift. Instead I propose Port Charles Crime Solvers which will be more of a procedural drama but also incorporate long ranging story arcs and star Spinelli and Maxie. Since this will no doubt be Executive Produced by ABC Daytime, Jason will also star but he’ll get billed as “Special Guest Star” a la Heather Locklear. I figure that Sam could be reoccurring since she hosts a television show dedicated to vigilante heroes but also because she brings potential drama and can pin even the stealthiest criminals in a cage match if she hasn’t already (accidentally) shot them.
Here’s my working premise based off of this week’s episodes: Burned by the ineptitude of the Port Charles Police Department and their inability to look outside the box, Maxie emotionally blackmails Spinelli into helping her clear Cooper’s name and find the real Text Message Killer. Jason, being the Maverick to Spinelli’s Goose, will join in on the action since he has a vested interested in finding his sister’s killer and also because all crimes in Port Charles not committed by Jason must be solved by Jason. It’s a law.
I figure that the TMK storyline will be wrapped up during Sweeps and then Port Charles Crime Solvers will roll out slightly afterwards. Of course there will be tension between Maxie and Mac since she is able to effectively solve crimes and he’s only able to look agitated while wearing various sweater ensembles. She’ll move of out of his house and into Elizabeth’s old art loft which will also be the headquarters of Jones/Spinelli Investigations. Since Jason is a silent partner, he won’t have his name on the door, nor will he attend most weekly meetings, but they will conference him in on a speaker box similar to John Forsythe on Charlie’s Angels.
A typical episode would go like this: Epiphany (because you can’t have a show without Epiphany apparently) goes to Jones/Spinelli because someone has been stealing medication from the hospital. After the police turn up no leads other than Johnny Zacchara who has a permanent spot in their lineup, Epiphany knows she can turn to Maxie and Spinelli to solve the case. No stranger to stealing drugs from the hospital, Maxie goes undercover as a volunteer (realistically just showing up to her regular volunteer shift) while Spinelli and Jason case the joint. Meanwhile in the episode’s B storyline, Monica continues to liquor it up in the supply closet. Looking for an extra pair of scrubs to wear under his leather jacket, Jason spies Monica drinking and has a heart to heart with her about her alcoholism. Back in the main plot, a chase ensues when Maxie catches Leyla stealing painkillers which she sells on the black market to help finance her medical school dream. Spinelli shuts down the hospital’s power so Leyla is unable to escape via the elevator and must instead use the stairs where Jason grabs her and gives her a lecture on the dangers of stealing and taking non-prescription medicine. But it’s not over yet! Leyla cracks and confesses that she’s been using a middle man to funnel the painkillers: young Michael Corinthos III who is waiting by the docs to sell them to kids on Prom Night. Jason and Maxie race down to meet him wherein Jason gives Michael an earnest lecture on the dangers of selling drugs. Back at the Port Charles Police Department, Johnny Zacchara is released only after Maxie and Spinelli slowly explain to Lucky who the real culprits are. Finally, Maxie and Spinelli go on Everyday Heroes and vow to keep Port Charles crime free…until the next week.
