Jacob’s Ladder

Sometimes I get bored and look things up online.  (Okay, all the time.)  Anyway, one day I got bored and looked up the history of Tibet and the Dalai Lama.  People, I am so glad I did, because I feel like I’m cracked Lost right open.  Apparently, after a Lama dies, emissaries are sent out to find the next reincarnation.  When a child is found that is believed to be the next incarnation, several items belonging to the previous Lama are placed in front of him and the child has to pick which items belong to him.  If the child chooses the correct items he is hailed as the next Lama.  As we saw in tonight’s episode, my favorite guy in eyeliner (Richard Alpert) performed a similar test on sad sap child, John Locke.  I’m thinking Alpert and company are looking for the next incarnation of Jacob (Aaron, perhaps?)  Oh, and I totally think Claire is dead.  Or stoned.

  1. That’s interesting!

I did think there was a parallel after we wondered why Ben and the others were so hell bent on Locke killing his father for them. Later (I think) we see Ben lets the others wipe out the Dharma colony but he personally sees to his own father’s death. At the time I just figured it was because his dad was such a bastard to him but I wonder if it’s a rite of passage they want from their leader?

Oh, and WTH are the others anyway?

  2. I know! Do you read the Doc Jensen column at EW.com? He’s got a good theory along the same lines as you. Also, if the purge was 12 years ago but Alex was a teenager when she died, when did she become Ben’s daughter?
