I don’t know if it’s because I’m nostalgic, or that times are tough and I sympathize with those laid off, but I was really feeling John and Marlena this week. I used to love them when I was younger but I soured on them lately when it was all “oohs”, “awes”, and Smokey Robinson singalongs. It just seemed wrong that a great love story that was all about amnesia, coming back from the dead multiple times, and dealing with Stefano would be reduced to bad facial expressions, “Oh my Goshs!”, and a lot of muscle relaxers. With all that being said, I think John and Marlena deserved better.
When I first heard that the DHs were on their way out, I didn’t expect their departure would be do to Dr. Amanda Cory’s Syringe of Paralysis. Why does everyone in Salem have access to such things? Is there some syringe factory in town? Is that what Titan Industries manufactures now? Then there’s Amanda Cory’s lame Oedipus Complex storyline. What a coincidence that she decided to extract revenge right when John was turned into a robot! If John’s going to depart Salem paralyzed shouldn’t he have at least been injured by Stefano? Yet, Stefano seemed personally shaken up by all this. Why? Was he jealous that Amanda Cory got one over on him? Or was it more due to the fact that with the exit stage left of Jarlena, he has no one to torture anymore? The best part of the goodbye was John raising his eyebrow at Steffie’s salute. Awesome. I cackled. Cackled, people.
In honor of their departure to Switzerland (which is like the hub of the Salem Lost Generation) I found this awesome montage. Enjoy!

Ha, I just did my own John & Marlena blog. You know the writing team is terrible when they can ruin even that!
