It’s really hard to be a Days of Our Lives fan these days. Even though the show only has like ten characters and time moves slower than molasses, I can’t seem to keep up with this show. Really why I should I? Veterans are made paraplegics and shipped off to Switzerland, women carry pillow babies for nine months, and eighteen year old girls are captains of industry.
Since this works out so well for my 90210 recaps, I’ve made a laundry list of my concerns with the show that need to be rectified lest the Today Show goes to an unprecedented fifth hour:
- Melanie: Clearly the most pressing of problems. At one point, I think I liked her because she reminded me of a young Isla Fisher and I felt for her when Stephanie and Chelsea were acting like self-righteous bitches. Now, I’m done with her. I’m not sure if it’s the Juniors Collection suits, the side ponytail, or the sing-songy voice, but she just grates. First of all, I’m not even sure if Melanie has a high school diploma but she (at least temporarily) landed a job at Titan. Then she’s a patent holder. Then she’s acting like a third-rate femme fatale and treating like Phillip’s Humphrey Bogart. I know she’s just starting out and doesn’t make a lot, but how does this actress have a job and the DHers are on a permanent vacation in Downtown Europe? (In the spirit of full disclosure, I’m not so much a fan of either DH or DH as actors, but they’re legacy characters. Plus Melanie is related to Max and I want him gone like two years ago.)
- Max: I can see where the writers think that they can mold him into a young Bo Brady but I’m here to tell them that idea is worse than a) flying bed sex, b) Sami becoming Stan and c) any of Chloe and Brady’s singalongs.
- Bo as a psychic: Is this some sort of NBC cross promotion with Medium? Seriously?
- Not enough Victor. My ideal episode would be everyone dining at Chez Rouge (the only restaurant in town) and Victor gets up at the podium and just starts going to town, Dean Martin-roast style. Boom, roasted!
- EJ’s hair: Remember that Seinfeld episode with the showerheads? Does EJ need the Commander 450?
- Daniel not running away with Chloe: Really, must he find a reason to make me hate even more with each passing day?

Though I’m not really watching the show anymore, I have to agree with you because those are what drove me from the show. Like you, I once liked Melanie, but that was when she was in a triangle with Nick and Chelsea (both either gone or leaving as well). Now the show wants to convince me a barely legal girl can hold her own against not just a Kiriakis but a Dimera too? In the business world? Really?
And the show’s love affair with Max alludes me so much and it’s really him that drove me from the show. I’ve put up with a lot with Nick’s story, but it was DB who should have been fired while keeping BB.
Ha, excellent post! EJ’s hair is disturbing on very many levels. As is Melanie’s interaction with both EJ & Philip. Perhaps there is a way to blame her for their follicular issues!
You’re right though, this show is boring beyond words and I really don’t know why I continue to watch. Bo the psychic and Hope dumping him because he didn’t tell her she would shoot Kayla? So lame. So very lame.
Love your Victor roast idea, sign me up!
Tripp, I went five days without watching an episode and once I started Friday’s ep, I instantly regretted it. This show is awful.
Nole, WHAT HAPPENED TO EJ’s HAIR? So scary!
