Even horrible shows can have bright moments and last night’s 90210 may have been the best we’re ever going to get. Maybe it’s because I love prom shows or white leather couches or hell, I may actually be excited that Jen is the closest character we’re ever going to get to Blair from Less Than Zero but I actually semi-enjoyed this past episode.
Let’s talk about Jen: she’s made of win. Sure, she looks like Rachel Zoe and she bleeds more money than General Motors but I feel like she’s the only true rich brat on this show. Compared to Jen, Naomi looks like a moral upstanding citizen. I’m intrigued by Jen for multiple reasons: her marriage and impending divorce to Eurotrash, her Yale cred (do you think she got a rec from Andrea Zuckerman?) and her ability to give it to Miss Taylor. How great was that scene between them in the bathroom? If only this show were on HBO, I’m sure Jen would have punctuated her smackdown of Kelly by ceremoniously snorting two lines of coke.
I’m slowly warming more and more to Naomi. In fact, out of all the girls, I liked her prom dress the best. I see that they’re trying to soften her character which makes sense because Kelly became nicer as high school wore on. I loved that she had no shame in taking the second hand Prom Tiara from Silver. It just seemed so Shanna Moakler of her. Speaking of Silver, I thought it was a nice touch that both she and her sister were queens of their respective sophomore dances–except Kelly was Spring Princess and she was technically on her first Junior year.
I hated Annie’s dress which isn’t suprising, but I’m pretty sure that I would hate Audrey Hepburn’s signature dress from Breakfast at Tiffany’s if Annie busted it out. Oh and what was up with Adriana wearing Jessica Alba’s maternity Oscar dress?
So could Liam please be the millennial Dylan McKay? It’s too bad he’s a transplant and not a native or we could have been treated to him and Naomi discussing walking home with the playground together in elementary school.
Oh and what’s up with Ethan? I know he’s out for next season but why is he acting so strange? Granted, with so many changes to the writing staff, it’s not like he ever had a discernible personality but why is he mooning all over Silver all of a sudden? A little late in the game, isn’t it?
